Basic Leadership Principles
Vision: "Without Vision the people perish” is a famous quote that needs to be taken literally. We all need a picture to work toward, a place to go, a clearly defined destination or goal that is formulated by the team through the leader. A reason for working with passion. Service: Making a difference for others. We have been a “how can I get you to buy my product or service?” in our approach to leadership of organizations in the past. Today’s world requires a different approach toward a more sophisticated public. That new conversation starts with “how can I help you get what you want and make a difference in the World?”
Integrity/Honesty: Speaking the truth, acting out the truth, and living in the truth is today’s critical Leadership skill. We’ve gotten so far away from this principle in business that everyone expects us to lie. We even have to learn how to tell the truth since most of have learned to do otherwise in business. People will follow someone that tells the truth, considers integrity in their decisions, and is trustworthy in what they do.
Contribution: What do we give back as a Leader and share with the team and with the community? What are we grateful for and how do we show our appreciation to those team members and supporters that helped us along the way?
Community: A leader does not operate in a vacuum. Just by definition, there needs to be people to lead in order for someone to lead. If you really stop and think about it, in essence we are all one. We all want to live peacefully, provide safety and sustenance for our families, and conduct our lives as we see fit within society’s guidelines. We are marvelously creative individuals all looking for the ideal way of expressing our talents in a productive way. A true leader knows how to harness these talents and help everyone in their organization toward this creative expression that contributes to the community of mankind. —Robert Test
